Thirteenth
Meeting of the Commission on the
Protection of the Black Sea
Against Pollution
15-17 February 2006, Istanbul, Türkiye
Black Sea Integrated Monitoring and Assessment Program BSIMAP 2006-2010, Black Sea
Problem Eutrophication
Policy Question: Are the regional effort to combat eutrophication effective are properly reflected in concentrations of nutrients in the Black Sea
Expected results Trend analysis in nutrients
Criteria for assessment 0 trend or decreasing trends for nitrogen and phosphorus compounds
In place Recommended methodologies for nutrient analysis, national QA/QS, external QA/QS
Actions required incorporation of BSIMAP stations and frequencies in national monitoring programs; correspondence of national measurements to the measurements obtained with recommended Nutrient Analysis Manual; implementation of recommended analytical techniques, QA/QS

Policy Issues: does pollution reduction in hazardous substances occur?
Media: Bottom Sediments
Purpose trend analysis
Assessment Criteria background values
Actions to be undertaken introduce monitoring of bottom sediments in the national monitoring programs;
Conduct Black Sea training for indicated pollutant classes and to prepare a Black Sea operational manual for analysis of hazardous substances
regular Black Sea survey and mapping with a frequency consistent to the European Marine Strategy (every 6 years as recommended by WFD)
regular intercomparison exercise
